Team Effectiveness workout

Who is the workout aimed at?

This workout is aimed at any team leader or department head who wants their team(s) to perform at their best for more of the time. The workout can be tailored for teams in most stages of development. If your team is already performing pretty well our workout will take you to a new level of performance; wouldn't you like to be the leader of a brilliant team?

What is Team Effectiveness?

‘Team Effectiveness’ is described by Tuckman as a team that is ‘Performing’ (as opposed to ‘Forming’, ‘Storming’ or ‘Norming’). We describe an ‘effective’ team as a team that is so, so much more than the sum of its parts – a team that is consistently playing to the strengths of all team members making it optimistic, creative, focused, decisive and most of all flexible – a team that is Performing at its Peak.

What is the workout like?

This workout is interactive, challenging and fun - giving the team members an opportunity to optimise their ways of working together, their team processes, their shared senses of purpose and their unique contribution in innovative ways. The workout will be like having your own team ‘personal trainer’ – pushing your desire for success, your focus, your fitness and your performance to a new level that you can sustain over time.

What sort of teams will benefit from this workout?

Your team will benefit from this approach if you;

  • Have recently 'reformed' following a business change (e.g. down-sizing, merger)
  • Have been together a while and maybe getting a little 'stale'
  • Want to be more productive or more focused
  • Recently had a change of leader or direction
  • Have been given new performance targets

As a team you will;

  • Know the business you are in
  • Have known many of your team members for a while
  • Have had experience of working with at least part of the team

This workshop is NOT targeted at brand new teams.  For new teams we would recommend our Team Start-Up approach. For more information contact us.

How does the training work?

The workout usually takes place over two days beginning with an up-front ‘fitness’ assessment and finishing with a clearly defined ‘exercise’ plan.

What are the topics covered?

The exact topics covered will depend on your ‘fitness assessment’ but will generally fall into the following categories;

  • Individual and Team ‘Warm up’ – looking at your fitness assessment, exploring your team ‘colour’, beginning to explore your exercise plan
  • Planning for success – what does success bring for you and your team, what is your shared goal?
  • Keeping your focus – what do your supporters (customers) want? Are you spending your time in the right places? How can you improve your focus on the ‘winning post’?
  • Building your team ‘fitness’ – working to be leaner, optimising your processes, playing to your strengths, removing the barriers
  • Sharpening your performance – being as flexible as possible, continually improving, taking individual and team ownership for ongoing team performance
  • Cooling down – developing your exercise plan, supporting practices, having fun

What will participants learn?

  • The characteristics of a Peak Performance
  • What success will be like for their team and how to notice when it is happening
  • The value that they bring to the team and how the team is valued
  • How to prioritise and focus on the most important things and not do the unimportant stuff
  • How to optimise individual and team performance
  • How to continuously learn from successes and challenges
  • How to appreciate each other and have fun together
